Students learn to develop foundations of core psychotherapy skills and work within musical frameworks based upon established music psychotherapy theories with diverse client populations. Song writing and clinical improvisation techniques for music psychotherapy interventions are explored and experienced through practical exercises and role-playing. Pre-composed music and musical forms are analyzed to gain an understanding of clinical improvisation and diversity of musical styles including non-European musical traditions.
